INDIAN CLASSICAL MUSIC & HOMOEOPATHY .

In 1952 , one marvelous movie came named “BAIJU BAWRA” and it had immortal music with many popular songs but in that movie there is one very nicely directed scene. In the scene, hero Baiju’s guru Swami Haridas is not getting any relief by any of the medicines of that time and he is just on the deathbed. At that time, Baiju sings “ man tarapat hari darshan ko aaj ” based on rag ‘Malkauns’ and as a result of it his stagnated guru starts movements in his limbs this is how Raga Malkauns gives his life back which was not possible by any of the medicines.

It is all about restoring the vital energy back to normal by applying the same qualitative energy pattern which is nothing else but homoeopathy.

Evolution of music & raga:

Music is existing right from the moment the first sound existed and sound is existing from the moment ‘big bang’ happened and birth of earth occurred. A sound of wind, sound of ocean, sound of rain, sounds of different insects, peacock and lot more are sounds which were existing even before the civilization came into existing .We can say that nature is never in mute mode. And each and every sound reaching to our auditory area affects us in certain manner.

As we know the mechanism of hearing sound is When air is vibrating with certain frequency sound occurs and it comes to us and travels through auditory canal and is received by cochlear portion of acoustic nerve. Here that mechanical energy gets converted into electrical energy and through impulses it moves to the auditory area of midbrain.

During evolution we have seen many vague frequencies of sound out of them some were soothing , some of them were producing irritability , so to utilize this vague vibrations ,we divided these different frequencies into sa , re , ga , ma etc…into different ‘Sur.’ Every sur is having their own expression of energy like every color is having , according to their frequencies they are having their own vibration pattern, their own time and their own indications ….which are made even clearer in ‘ SAMVEDA ’ years ago.
Arrangement of different ‘ sur ’ makes one ‘Raga.’ So it will make the unique energy pattern of that raga…which is quite individualistic and holistic.
And as we know when this energy is getting materialized it can create miracles. There is very well known example about raga Dipak which had lightened the lamps in the palace of lord Akbar. Even rain can come just by singing rag Malhar in its proper way. Gradually these ragas got converted into many domestic compositions which we are listening today in the form of different songs & Gazals.

Effect of music on humans:
Music has been an inherited part of us. Even we see an infant getting more active while listening to certain songs . In celebration of different kind different kind of music has always been an integral part of it . so it is suggestive that music is producing different kind of experiences within us.

So much research has already been done on effect of music on human mind out of them the most interesting is : music directly affects our Neuro transmitters especially ‘ dopamine serotonin , nor epinephrine and acetyl choline. All these are having their vaso constrictor effect , vaso dilator effect , effect on sleep etc. in short they are having much quite wide range of effect on both psychological and physiological planes.

One Doctor Working in Apollo hospital Chennai on music only, found that if the children in their early embryological life are made to listen to rightly prescribed music , their cognitive aspects and growth of their nerve pathways occurs much better than other ones. Music, especially Indian classical music is having marvelous calming effect and hence in many institutions ,especially those working with special children ,they are used to use music to improve their cognition and violent behavior.

Homoeopathic application of music:

Homoeopathy is the principle of dynamic exchange of energy and restoration of vital force by giving the same qualitative substance to the person. That qualitative substance can be in any form – even in the form of music as well.
Being a homoeopath we believe strongly in 3 things :

1. individualization
2. holism
3. Prescription based on similia principle.
So utilization of music can be made in the same manner , By proving ragas and knowing their effects we can know the whole state of that raga in psychological and physiological planes & can be given to the patient who is experiencing the same state disturbances.

E.g. When I proved Rag Darbari kanda ..it had given the whole state of experience of tremendous pressure because of excessive responsibilities and given an image like being a responsible person , exhausted with it and wanted to get out of the trap created by that responsibility & want to break free those responsibilities …now we can surely apply this raga as medicine for the person suffering with complaints which got their arousal due to excessive responsibility issues and who is experiencing pressure due to it.

Already in homoeopathy Dr. Rajan Sankaran has used Ragas as therapeutic agents and proved some ragas as well.

Being a person interested in understanding this beautiful expression of cosmic energy of nature ,I have started proving ragas one by one in the same manner in which we are proving medicines to get the individual patterns of different ragas and to understand the state of that individual raga along with its physiological effects and effects on the pathology of the prover which is already existing.

Disease is all about disturbed harmony into different cells and tissues .it is absence of concordance between different systems of the body. By taking help of music along with the medicine or individually as medicine we can surely help the patient to rediscover his harmony in body , mind and spirit and can help in our mission of providing “ CURE ” as it is termed.
